See the research behind our ingredients.

1. What is NeuroGum?

NeuroGum is a sugar-free and aspartame-free nootropic energy gum that uses ingredients shown to give your brain the boost it needs to function at its best. The first gum to utilize the effectiveness of caffeine + L-theanine and natural ingredients scientifically shown to enhance cognition, NeuroGum helps unlock your potential by improving concentration, alertness, and memory through a medium that everyone can enjoy. Also, since gum is buccally absorbed through the mouth, the active ingredients in NeuroGum take effect 5X faster than if taken through drinks or supplements.

The synergy of our primary ingredients natural caffeine, L-theanine, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 have been studied extensively through a number of clinical experiments to show positive results in cognitive functions. You can find links to the studies in the respective sections below.

2. What are nootropics?

Nootropics are a class of compounds that are meant to improve one or more aspects of mental function such as working memory, motivation, and attention.

Dr. Corneliu E. Giurgea considered nootropic a compound that fit the following criteria:

  1. They should enhance learning and memory.
  2. They should enhance the resistance of learned behaviors/memories to conditions which tend to disrupt them (e.g. electroconvulsive shock, hypoxia).
  3. They should protect the brain against various physical or chemical injuries (e.g. barbiturates, scopalamine).
  4. They should increase the efficacy of the tonic cortical/subcortical control mechanisms.
  5. They should lack the usual pharmacology of other psychotropic drugs (e.g. sedation, motor stimulation) and possess very few side effects and extremely low toxicity.

3. What is so bad about aspartame?

Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages on the market. The majority of energy drinks, including Red Bull, Monster, NOS, and Rockstar all contain the low-calorie sweetener.

Many consumer advocacy groups such as The Center for Science state that aspartame has been shown to cause cancer when tested on lab rats, and a statement of side effects submitted to the FDA show 92 side effects associated with aspartame. Given this, we wanted NeuroGum to stay as far away from the artificial sweetener as possible.

4. What are the benefits of L-theanine?

L-theanine, a natural constituent in green tea, has a chemical structure very similar to glutamate, a naturally occurring amino acid in the body that helps transmit nerve impulses in the brain.

Here are some studies below:

The significant effects of L-theanine on mental alertness and arousal

Improving mental regeneration after physical exercise

Anti-stress effects of L-theanine via the inhibition of cortical neuron excitation

L-theanine on facilitating sustaining attention during a difficult task

L-theanine’s effect on the brain’s attention circuitry

5. What are the benefits of caffeine and L-theanine together?

The synergistic effects of caffeine and L-theanine together have been intensively studied and is now one of the most popular nootropic beginner stacks.

Here are some studies below:

Caffeine and L-theanine on attention task performances

Caffeine and L-theanine combination improves cognitive performance

Improved performance on cognitive tasks following caffeine and L-theanine dosage

Caffeine and L-theanine of cognition and mood

6. What are the benefits of vitamin B6 and B12?

Vitamin B’s are a class of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. They are found in a variety of foods as well as within our bodies.

Here are some studies below:

7. Is there a benefit to chewing these ingredients in a gum vs drinking it?

Absolutely! Since chewing NeuroGum allows for absorption through buccal administration, the ingredients can absorb up to five times faster than drinking it. Furthermore, drinking risks degrading the effective compounds due to stomach acid or bile while buccal administration ensures that the effective compounds won't degrade outside of salivary contact.

9. Does NeuroGum fit my dietary restrictions?

NeuroGum is 100% gluten-free, vegan and does not contain any ingredients derived from milk, eggs, soy, or wheat gluten.

10. Is there a way to see how smart I am?

Both Cambridge Brain Sciences and Quantified Mind provide online cognitive performance platforms to track memory, concentration, and reasoning scores. Chew some NeuroGum and try it out!
