Getting Your Caffeine Kick Another Way

August 19, 2015

If you're like me, caffeine is a daily ritual. In college I spent time experimenting with caffeine pills, and for a few years after college, energy drinks powered me. Until recently, I was the type to drink coffee from the start of the workday until the end...and there's a reason for it.

Caffeine is unquestionably effective in most of us - whether to pep us up in the morning, to give us a boost after a heavy lunch, or more often than we'd like, to give us a hand through the night. But with the blessing comes a curse. We trade energy now for a crash later. At the end of every long line at Starbucks awaits massive blood sugar fluctuations and acid reflux.

To understand how and why Neurogum aims to solve these problems, let's take a look at a couple of our energy intake alternatives. We'll start with coffee, the favorite delivery method of most Americans.

If it's part of your morning ritual, you're jump starting your body with 80 to 163 mg of caffeine in an 8 oz brew, and that's if you resist the urge to top off that 11 oz mug. If you do fill it near the brim, you could be getting upwards of 200 mg in a single serving. Two of these and you've reached your recommended safe dose for the day. Any more and you get into the realm of side effects like insomnia, irritability, upset stomach, and muscle tremors.

Unpleasant caffeine side effects set aside, when you're a coffee drinker, you also spend the time brewing the coffee, or you spend the time waiting in line at Starbucks. You stain your teeth and give yourself bad breath right before your big day. On top of that, you start the day with pesticides and herbicides unless you spring for the organic stuff. The high dose of caffeine will have you running to the bathroom, crash before lunch, and give you heartburn if you're sensitive. Also, the sugar needed to get past the acquired taste cultivated bad flora in your gut. There's got to be a better way, right?

Next, let's look at the energy drink.

Now here's an alternative. No lines at the local gas station - quick and easy.

Ignoring the battery acid taste and the cost, energy drinks give you the same side effects any huge dose of caffeine will. It takes half an hour to kick in, leads to weight gain through sugar, and even more weight gain by confusing your body into storing fat. An 8.4 oz Red Bull has double the amount of caffeine needed for optimal reaction times, and anything past half of a can has been shown to actually decrease reaction speed

So how does Neurogum stack up?

We use 40 mg of caffeine in a serving, which is the optimal level for reaction speeds. But caffeine on its own is a junior level energy boost. We combine caffeine with L-Theanine, a chemical that has been shown to reduce and balance the unpleasant side effects of caffeine while adding its own benefits including increased focus, decreased stress and anxiety, and decreased blood pressure.

In addition to the most common and safe nootropic stack in caffeine and L-Theanine, we add vitamins B6 and B12. B6 is essential for creating new, healthy blood cells, and may help reduce the risk of heart disease. B12 is also responsible for creating new blood cells, as well as maintaining healthy nerve cells. It is particularly important for vegetarians and vegans who may have a difficult time finding B12 in a plant based diet.

So the energy boosting combination sounds great, right? We think so too. But that's not the only reason to substitute Neurogum for your coffee or energy drink.

Instead of stains and sugar for your teeth, gum chewing has been shown to help clean teeth and reduce bad breath and decay-causing bacteria. Chewing gum itself has been shown to reduce stress and increase cognitive performance including reaction times. Our delivery method of absorption through the mouth also gets you your energy fix within minutes, rather than the half hour or more that it may take to metabolize the chemicals in the stomach. Better yet, you can easily store nine full servings in your pocket to power you through your day in a safe way.

If you still aren't convinced, take a look at the science and we're confident you'll come to the same conclusion that we did: there's got to be a better way.

     We believe we've found it.

Neurogum has been engineered to deliver a smooth energy boost, with optimal cognitive performance in mind, and we are very excited to start our journey toward helping you break away from the potentially harmful and heavy handed methods you've grown used to.

Don't let your caffeine kick you. Join us on the journey and start remembering each day more clearly, dreaming more vividly, and living life more adventurously.
