What’s So Smart About NeuroGum?

See the research behind our ingredients.

1. What is NeuroGum?

NeuroGum is a sugar-free and aspartame-free nootropic energy gum that uses ingredients shown to give your brain the boost it needs to function at its best. The first gum to utilize the effectiveness of nootropics and natural ingredients scientifically shown to enhance cognition, NeuroGum helps unlock your potential by improving concentration, alertness, and memory through a medium that everyone can enjoy. Also, since gum is buccally absorbed through the mouth, the active ingredients in NeuroGum take effect 5X faster than if taken through drinks or supplements.

The synergy of our primary ingredients, caffeine, L-theanine, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 have been studied extensively through a number of clinical experiments to show positive results in cognitive functions. You can find links to the studies in the respective sections below.

2. What are nootropics?

Nootropics are a class of compounds that improve one or more aspects of mental function such as working memory, motivation, and attention.

Dr. Corneliu E. Giurgea considered nootropic a compound that fit the following criteria:

  1. They should enhance learning and memory.
  2. They should enhance the resistance of learned behaviors/memories to conditions which tend to disrupt them (e.g. electroconvulsive shock, hypoxia).
  3. They should protect the brain against various physical or chemical injuries (e.g. barbiturates, scopalamine).
  4. They should increase the efficacy of the tonic cortical/subcortical control mechanisms.
  5. They should lack the usual pharmacology of other psychotropic drugs (e.g. sedation, motor stimulation) and possess very few side effects and extremely low toxicity.

3. What is so bad about aspartame?

Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages on the market. The majority of energy drinks, including Red Bull, Monster, NOS, and Rockstar all contain the low-calorie sweetener.

Many consumer advocacy groups such as The Center for Science state that aspartame has been shown to cause cancer when tested on lab rats, and a statement of side effects submitted to the FDA show 92 side effects associated with aspartame. Given this, we wanted NeuroGum to stay as far away from the artificial sweetener as possible.

4. What are the benefits of caffeine?

Caffeine is the most widely consumed stimulant in the world. You’ve probably enjoyed it in your coffee, tea, soft drink, or energy drink. Ordinary consumption has low health risks, even when carried on for years – there may be a modest protective effect against some diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.

5. What are the benefits of L-theanine?

L-theanine, a natural constituent in green tea, has been used for treating anxiety, high blood pressure, possibly preventing Alzheimer’s disease, and making cancer drugs more effective. It has a chemical structure very similar to glutamate, a naturally occurring amino acid in the body that helps transmit nerve impulses in the brain.

In our gum, it works alongside caffeine to mitigate it’s effect while boosting attention and reducing stress.

6. What are the benefits of caffeine and L-theanine together?

The synergistic effects of caffeine and L-theanine together have been intensively studied and is now one of the most popular nootropic beginner stacks. It has been shown that L-theanine may interact with caffeine to enhance performance in terms of attention switching and the ability to ignore distraction; this is likely to be reflective of higher-level cognitive activity and may be sensitive to the detrimental effects of overstimulation. The ratio we chose ensures an effective dose of caffeine while providing the perfect balance of stress relief from the L-theanine.

7. What are the benefits of vitamin B6 and B12?

Vitamin B’s are a class of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. They are found in a variety of foods as well as within our bodies.

Vitamin B6 plays various roles in health support including red blood cell production, carbohydrate metabolization, and liver detoxification. For the brain, vitamin B6 is one of several B vitamins required for proper production of neurotransmitters. Three key neurotransmitters—namely GABA, dopamine, and serotonin—all require vitamin B6 for synthesis.

Vitamin B12 also plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood. It is normally involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body, especially affecting DNA synthesis and regulation, but also fatty acid metabolism and amino acid metabolism. At levels only slightly lower than normal, a range of symptoms such as fatigue, depression, and poor memory may be experienced.

8. Is there a benefit to chewing these ingredients in a gum vs drinking it?

Absolutely! Since chewing NeuroGum allows for absorption through buccal administration, the ingredients can absorb up to five times faster than drinking it. Furthermore, drinking risks degrading the effective compounds due to stomach acid or bile while buccal administration ensures that the effective compounds won't degrade outside of salivary contact.

9. Does NeuroGum fit my dietary restrictions?

NeuroGum is 100% gluten-free, vegan and does not contain any ingredients derived from milk, eggs, soy, or wheat gluten.

10. Is there a way to see how smart I am?

Both Cambridge Brain Sciences and Quantified Mind provide online cognitive performance platforms to track memory, concentration, and reasoning scores. Chew some NeuroGum and try it out!
