Tea is a widely consumed beverage, second to water, and goes back thousands of years containing amazing medicinal purposes. Some places in the world hold tea on a high pedestal for curing ailments and improving ones health - and mainly due to it's main ingredient L-Theanine. Taken by itself or in conjunction with caffeine, L-theanine is a beneficial ingredient to promote an overall healthy lifestyle.

What is L-Theanine? 

L-Theanine is an amino acid analogue, a member of the Theaceae family, which is mostly found in certain plants and fungal species. It's derived from tea leaves that are native to Eastern Asia. In 1949, L-theanine was discovered as a constituent of green tea, which makes it very popular when it comes to health consciousness. L-Theanine contains many different benefits that can cater to many different situations.

Another amazing benefit that L-theanine has is it's an excellent mood enhancer. It really changes ones mood positively and effectively, coinciding with relieving stress. It gives a positive affect on the brain, enhancing ones mood by changing the levels of amino acids affecting serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain. It's such a simple ingredient, yet has amazing results for ones overall well being.

L-theanine also promotes nerve protection, promotes the production of new brain cells, and releases protein hat are needed for nerve growth. It basically blocks the overstimulation of the cells and protects brain cells from being negatively affected when levels of oxygen are low. It also promotes production of new brain cells by stimulating release of a protein necessary for nerve growth. 

5) Helps promote healthy cardiovascular system

L-theanine also provide antioxidant effects which benefit the cardiovascular system. What it does is successfully prevents oxidation of low-density lipoprotein, or cholesterol. It helps improve cardiovascular health by producing nitric oxide in the linings of the arteries. Nitric oxide is a compound that causes blood vessel dilation. That being said, L-theanine can also help reduce high blood pressure. 

6) Promotes alertness and energy

Last but not least, L-theanine promotes alertness in ones mental health. Combined with caffeine, it increases alertness and promotes energy. It boosts energy levels naturally and effectively without the overwhelming caffeine feeling, and helps mentally through the ability to improve ones attention and memory. 
L-theanine contains amazing and positive effects on the human body, which we could all benefit from. It's a natural safe way to enhance ourselves, mentally and physically. There's nothing better than consuming natural ingredients to better our lives and keep ourselves at ease while doing so!
