It's summertime, and I'm already sweating. Are you sweating? Nevermind, I don't want to dwell on the sweat.
What I want to dwell on is the dehydration that can come with it. Drinking water, to many people is something they think they're doing really well, only to find out that they aren't getting nearly as much water as they think.
If you haven't really been keeping track of your water intake, it might be time to keep a log or track it with an app for the next few days. You might be surprised to find that you aren't as well hydrated as you thought.
To get a quick idea of how well hydrated you are... this is going to sound a little gross, but maybe just check out the color of your pee a little. If it's dark, you're not well enough hydrated, and you should stick around and listen to some of the reason you should be taking more water into your system.
Dehydration is an outstanding reason to drink water because taking in water is the only way to prevent it. Why do you want to prevent dehydration?
Without being hydrated, your mouth does not produce enough saliva to keep itself clean.
This leads to a dry mouth, which is a perfect environment for bacteria to grow, including those that cause bad breath and gum disease.
Further, your saliva, as well as regular rinsing with water, helps keep sugars out of your teeth. Those sugars also happen to feed those same harmful bacteria.
Without water your body can't regulate its temperature well. When it comes to your sleep, that means that if you don't have enough water for your body to cool itself, you may find yourself sluggish the next day, or waking up during the night in a dry sweat.
Drinking water before bed will give your body what it needs. Not only to control its temperature, but to perform essential repairs to your body and brain while you rest.
Your pores have a sort of natural process to clean themselves, and water is part of that process. When your skin dries out it can retract, which can trap dirt in your pores at the same time.
Fully hydrated cells also wrinkle and sag less, so unless you're going for a "prematurely old" look, drink your water.
When your body is out of water, it can kick in the same feelings that cause hunger. If you feel like you are hungry but you have eaten recently enough, try drinking water to see if you're not just dehydrated.
Drinking water can help curb those snacking urges between meals as well, by giving your stomach a feeling of fullness until the cravings pass.
Another important aspect of weight loss is being able to efficiently digest the food you've eaten. When you dehydrate, your intestines try to suck water from any source they can find, which means instead of your excess food passing through you, much of it gets grabbed by your body in desperation as it searches for water. This causes constipation, which is also pretty unpleasant.
